Papum-Pare at a Glance Papum-Pare is one of the major and capital district of Arunachal Pradesh situated between 26.55o N - 28.400 N latitude and longitude between 92.400 - 94.210 E with an altitudinal range of 459-1250 msl covering geographical area of 2,875 sq. km. The district is characterized by hilly ridges, mountains and valleys covered with green lush vegetations through out the year. It enjoys sub-tropical to temperate types of climate with pre-dominantly three seasons’ viz. summer (march to may), monsoon (mid may to September) and winter (October to march). Historical genesis of the district click here to view PP map Till 1914 the district was a part of Lakhimpur district of Assam. By government of India(GOI) notification of 1914, the area covered by this district became a part of Lakhimpur Frontier Tract of the “North East Frontier Tract”. In March 1919 by another notification, the Lakhimpur Frontier Tract along with western sector was renamed as “Balipara Frontier Tract”. In 1946 the district area was curved out from Balipara Frontier Tract and named as “Subansiri Area” with the head quarter at North Lakhimpur. In 1954, Subansiri Area was renamed as “Subansiri Frontier Division” and it’s headquarter was shifted to Ziro. On 1st September 1965, the Ministry of Home Affairs took over the administrative charge of NEFA from Ministry of External Affairs and Subansiri Frontier Division was renamed as Subansiri district, with Deputy Commissioner as the in-charge of the district. On 22nd September 1992, Papum-Pare district was created and inaugurated at Doimukh by the then Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Sri Gegong Apang bifurcating it from Lower Subansiri district it became the 12th district of the state. The name of the district is derived from the two rivers which are flowing in the district viz. Papum River flowing in Balijan circle and Pare River flowing from Sangkum Geko touching Leporiang, Sagalee, Toru and Doimukh circles of the district. These two rivers finally drains into mighty Brahmaputra in Assam. |
